“Publishing Your First Book (Part 2): Workshop”

Date: Tuesday, 2 April 2019, 4:30pm

Venue: 4.04 Run Run Shaw Tower

What does it take to transform your dissertation into a book? Join recently published authors who have worked with major academic presses to jumpstart the process of publishing your first book. This two-part series on “Publishing Your First Book” is part of the School of Humanities Early Career Convivium.

Through hands-on exercises and peer feedback, this workshop will help participants develop a compelling book prospectus and establish a plan for revising the dissertation into a book. The workshop is limited to participants who have completed a dissertation manuscript.

Workshop Facilitators:

  • Dr. Loretta Kim, Assistant Professor and Director, China Studies Arts Stream, HKU; author of Ethnic Chrysalis: China’s Orochen People and the Legacy of Qing Borderland Administration (Harvard University Press 2019)
  • Dr. Sze Wei Ang, HKU; author of The State of Race: Asian/American Fiction after World War II (SUNY Press 2019)
  • Dr. Priscilla Song, HKU; author of Biomedical Odysseys: Fetal Cell Experiments from Cyberspace to China (Princeton University Press 2017)

The workshop is limited to participants who have completed a dissertation manuscript or have drafted a book manuscript. Registered participants should bring a book prospectus draft and/or the table of contents from the dissertation/book manuscript for peer feedback during the workshop.
